The cinema career of Tamanna has started from her stage performance. Her stage performance was seen by the director and producer of her first movie and she got chance to act in movies.
She changed her original name to Tamannaah for numerical factors.

In the same year, Tamanna got her first step in the Telugu cinema industry namely Sri. The very first Tamil movie of Tamanna, Kedi was the first movie also for another leading Tamil cinema actress, Illeana.
After a couple of years of gap, Tamanna acted in three movies in the same year, one of those three is Vyabari with S J Surya. In this movie the still of S J Surya kissing the breast of Tamanna got a high famous in the Image searches of Google Search Engine about the Tamil actress Tamanna.

2015 :

Then her movie Vasuvum Saravananum Onna Padichavanga movie with Arya and the movie was completely with comedy scenes. Her skill of comedy scenes was well exposed in this movie.

2016 :
In 2016, she acted in Thozha pairing with Karthi in which Nagarjuna did one of the main roles. In this movie Tamannah appeared as a glam doll having most of her angry expressions to Karthi.
In the same year her movie Dharma durai pairing with Vijay Sethupathy released in which she acted as a doctor.
Then she acted in a multilingual movie known as Devi pairing with Prabu Deva under the direction of
A L Vijay. In this movie she acted as a house wife and a ghost.
Then her movie Kaththi Sandai got released in 2016 in which Vishal did the main male role. In this movie she acted under the direction of Suraj after long gap that she acted under his direction for the movie Padikadhavan.
2017 :
In the same year 2017, her movie Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion was released. Even though she did not have much scope in this movie compared with Baahubali the beginning, she did her part perfectly in this movie also.
in the same year, her movie with Simbu namely Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan ( AAA ) was released.
In the next year, 2018 Tamanna movie with actor Vikram was released, namely Sketch. This movie and AAA did not go well in collections.
2019 :
After a year of gap, she appeared in Tamil movie Kanne Kalaimaane under the direction of Cheenu Ramasamy. In this movie, she did a different role with a homely character.
In the same year her movie Devi part 2 got released. In the same year 2019, her Tamil movie Petromax got released which was again a ghost movie followed by her Devi and Devi part 2.
Then Tamanna acted in the Tamil movie Petromax as the female lead role. Its a scary movie again under the direction of Rohin Venkatesan who had directed the movie Adhe Kangan having actor Kalai Arasan in the cast earlier.
Then she acted in the movie called as Action paired up with actor Vishal under the direction of
Sundar C. This movie did not do well with Box office as well as comments from Critics.
After this Tamanna took a long gap of Tamil cinema inductry of 3 years.
2023 :
Tamanna acted again in Tamil movie Jailer in which she did kind of guest appearance under the direction of Nelson Dilipkumar having Rajnikanth as lead male actor.
