Actor Karthi birth place is Chennai and his date of birth is 25/05/ 1977. He started his school life in Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, and later continued his studies in St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School, Chennai Tamilnadu. After completing his school education Karthi has completed Engineering degree in Crescent Engineering College, Chennai Tamilnadu. Then he did the job as an Engineering consultant in Chennai for one year and has gone to continue his PG Degree in Engineering. He got his PG Degree in in Industrial Engineering from Binghamton University, New York.
While doing his education career he also interested in film making and he never failed to attend the film making seminars. He did some part time job in graphic designing. His wish in film making pushed him to do basic film–making courses at State University of New York. Karthi is basically from a cine family his father and now his brother Surya doing excellent in movies so he like to watch movies and admire the best both in technical and acting. Karthi decided to become a hero and finally succeeded in his career in the year 2007. As per his father, Siva Kumar's advice he got good education to gain knowledge and then joined the film industry.

At the beginning, Karthi worked as an assistant director for Mani Ratnam in Aayutha Ezhuthu manwhile he was getting offers to act in Tamil movies. As per his fathers advice Karthi accepted to work with Ameer for the movie Paruthiveeran.
The movie was released in the year 2007, this movie got great commercially success. He received Filmfare Award for Best Actor, Tamil Nadu State Film Special Prize award and Vijay Award for Best Male Debut for the movie Paruthiveeran. The next movies of the actor Aayirathil Oruvan Paiyaa are also box office hit and the movie Paiyaa is a romantic story was in great success under the direction of Tamil director Linguswamy. Both the movies were nominated for film fare awards.
